Registration for descendants will begin at 10:30 am in the Visitors Center \nFor non-descendant visitors\, museum volunteers will be on-hand Saturday to conduct regular museum tours from 1-3 pm and the gift shop will be open for the purchase of 250th anniversary memorabilia.

DESCRIPTION:August 1\, 2024 marks the 250th Anniversary of Dr. Priestley’s discovery of oxygen\, and in honor of that auspicious event\, the Joseph Priestley House Museum is hosting a celebration!\n\n\nUnder the tent set up for the occasion\, guests will be able to enjoy food catered by Laurie Bucard of Townside Catering\, to purchase Priestley Pilsner from Pineknotter Brewery or wine from Whispering Oak\, to enjoy\, and\, if one so desires\, dance to music performed by Elegance Quartet (https://www.elegancequartet.com). The house will be open for guests to visit the newly renovated second floor Rotating Display Area\, which during the Gala Weekend Celebration\, will feature an art display by guest artist Hope Buzzelli. DESCRIPTION:On February 4\, from 9:30 to 10:10 be at the Joseph Priestley Chapel to learn how Priestley and eight other Lunatics fueled the fires that would ignite the Industrial Revolution in 1780-1790. The Lunar Society (Lunatics) was a group of men who met monthly on the Monday closest to the Full Moon. As Maureen McNeil says\, “These men of science and industry were drawn together by their interest in natural philosophy\, technological and industrial development and social change appropriate to these concerns. They developed concepts and techniques in science\, agriculture\, manufacturing\, mining and transport.”  You’ll also hear four selections of music that Priestley may have heard.

SUMMARY:Twelfth Night
DESCRIPTION:The Twelfth Night Celebration is free and open to the public. All children attending will receive a free book!\n\nTwelfth Night (also known as Epiphany Eve) is a festival that traditionally takes place on the last of the 12 days of Christmas\, marking the coming of the Epiphany. The celebration will include the customary Twelfth-Night Cake. The person that finds a bean in a slice of cake gets a crown and a person that finds a clove in a slice of cake gets a jester hat for the night. In addition to the cake other lite refreshments will be served. Traditional colonial music and Christmas carols will be provided by\, a Choral group representing the Unitarian Church\, and Fiddler Beverley Conrad.\n\nRon Blatchley as Joseph Priestley will conduct chemistry demonstrations in the Pond Building at 4:30 and 5:30. Seating is limited and tickets for each session are available in the Visitors Center.\nThe Joseph Priestley House will be open for self-guided tours with docents dressed in period costumes in each room to answer any questions. The house will be traditionally decorated with pine\, holly\, and candles.\n\nWhen guests arrive at the Visitor Center they will be escorted by lantern to the Priestley House and Pond Building.

DESCRIPTION:As part of Remake Learning Days\, the Joseph Priestley House museum (472 Priestly Ave\, Northumberland PA) is hosting a “Native and Herb Faire” on May 20th from 9 AM to 4 PM.  The Master Gardeners from Northumberland and Montour counties will be participating by having an “Ask the Master Gardener” Booth\, providing children’s        activities\, and giving presentations on beginning gardening and planting natives.  Besides the Master Gardener programming\, there will be plant and plant product vendors\, food wagons\, and heirloom plants and vegetables from Landis Valley museum heirloom seed projects.  If you would like to participate or have any questions\, contact Colleen Epler-Ruths (cmeruths@gmail.com) or Murrie Zlotziver (jphopsmanager@gmail.com).
